DALLAS (Reuters) – A Houston-area woman who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in May for setting her son’s house on fire will get credit for time spent in prison by a family member who attended the sentencing.

The family members are not related to Michael Thomas, who pleaded guilty on April 6 to setting the house ablaze during an argument with his wife, Shannon Thomas, on August 22, 2014.
A judge reduced Shannon Thomas’ jail sentence by a year from 10 years to six, according to court documents, and granted clemency to her husband, Michael Thomas.
Shannon Thomas was convicted by a jury of child endangerment after the Texas Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire consumed 18,600 square feet (2,400 sq. meters) in a three-story two-bedroom duplex in West Branch, one of Texas’ biggest cities.
Prosecutors had asked a jury to sentence Shannon Thomas to 20 years in prison, citing the damage caused by the fire as well as that by similar fires in 2010 and 2013.
Michael Thomas’ lawyers requested probation, instead of a prison term.
He started his own business, called Michael Thomas Construction, and a year later, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiring to commit mail fraud by illegally obtaining money and other property.
