This chart shows the types of knits available for your knitting needles. The NAP fabric uses yarn with an N-needle tension: 0.8mm, 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm and 7mm. If your needle is not made with these yarns, you will need one of the knitting needles that only uses these yarns: 5mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm or 10mm.
Inner Knitting Needles for Knitting Needles
The knitting needle will always come with two outer needles for the smaller gauge projects such as a sweater, a hat, a shawl, a skirt or a pair of pants.
Sock, Foot and Sock Knitting Needles
This is the same chart as for yarn yarns, except for sock, foot and sock knitting needles which use the smaller 6, 8, 10 and 12mm needles. If your needle is not made with these yarns, you will need one of the needle that only uses these yarns: 5.5mm, 6mm, 9mm or 13mm.
Knitting Needles in the Fibre Family
The Fibre family of needles has the most variation when compared to other knitting needles because it’s mostly made of wool. However, the difference that separates the Fibre and yarn types is the small-diameter needle used with them.
This needle with a small diameter is used to produce the tiny nails that are used to decorate your fingernails. You can purchase needle sets that have these needles ready to go or you can make your own.

Ruffles and Fleece
This special needle has a small gauge to allow you to do everything from crochet to knitting. You can make knit-up garments, scarves, knit-up hats, gloves and hats. You will also notice the use of 3mm needles in most knits.
Socks, Stockings and Gloves
Socks, stockings and gloves need a wider gauge because there is more area in the middle of the skin to weave in between the toes. You can make socks, stockings and gloves by simply inserting a needle with a needle size of three inches into the sock you want to knit.
