It is likely that the next version of Lightroom Classic won’t be released. The current release of Lightroom Classic is 2.3.5. Lightroom is not expected to go away anytime soon.

How do I upgrade to Lightroom Classic?

You can upgrade Lightroom Classic from the original release to the next release. There are some things that have changed since the most recent release of Lightroom Classic, so we recommend downloading the newest release of Lightroom Classic to avoid issues.

Why was Lightroom classic discontinued?

There are many reasons that lightroom classic disappeared due to problems with the OS inside and outside lightroom:

The installation path was changed. In lightroom 2.x (and later editions) this was done with a simple move of the “user” folder inside the source folder, into the user folder of the operating system being used for the install. Lightroom 1.x also had this same process, but the source folders would remain part of the original installation path. Lightroom 2.0 removed this simple move. A new Lightroom desktop was launched, for easier administration. It was not designed for the use of a lightroom server anymore, as it had no proper access to the original user files. Also the desktop used a new design, which was more lightweight than Lightroom 1.x.
