Both are software programs that allow you to manipulate pictures. Photoshop has Photoshop, while Lightroom has Lightroom. Let’s start with Photoshop first, since it’s the product I use most often to edit my photos. It’s the tool I’m more familiar with, so I can explain it to newbie photographers.
Open Photoshop
With Photoshop, you can preview each photo in your computer’s photo viewer. This tool allows you to compare the color of a photo to its original, and to change any color. It’s also the tool I use most when I want to alter the color in a photo.
Choose Edit>Colors in Photoshop.
Select a photo, then choose Edit>Adjustments. Then choose Hue/Saturation/Blur. This is the main technique used in Photoshop.
If you want to change the contrast, choose Reducing Contrast. In the Color Balance menu, you can change the tonal balance from Standard to Warm/Cool/Blend, and choose “Cinematic.” You can also create a new color in the Color Changer, and set the saturation, brightness and vibrancy of the new color so it will not affect your pictures.
Click OK in the Edit>Adjustments window.
Now go to the image you want to convert to a black-and-white picture, which can’t be done in the Photoshop image. You could save the file for later, but I recommend using a program that can make black-and-white images easily.
Open a file in Black & White Photo Studio.
Go to the Color Changer and then choose a new picture. Select the file you want to alter, then choose the Color Changer window. The new Picture Size window opens, in which you have four tabs: Color, Color Range, Black & White Color, and Black & White Color Range. Click the Add button. The Color Adjustment window opens. The Color Range tab creates one of three types of black/white Adjustment.
1) “Softening,” which creates more contrast between the background and the parts you want to change, such as shadows and highlights.
2) “Darkening,” which creates a slightly more muted, darkening effect.
3) “Sharpen,” which makes the picture look sharp, without being too sharp, as in a Photoshop image.
