No. You may not use a “prescribed” pet, nor may you transfer a pet to the hands-on veterinarian for “prescribed” or “prescribed-only” treatment. If a pet meets the legal definition of an “animal,” it has legal owner and may be given away, given away, or placed into the care of any qualified person (e.g., a licensed veterinarian) who is willing to do so.
If you wish to sell your pet, give it away or deposit it with a qualified person, you must obtain a permit from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife.
