A good idea will keep you at the top of the game for your editors. This is a great way to stay in front of your audience – and it’s just a bonus.
Why would you pay for something you can do for just $6?
A few of my colleagues are interested in writing, too. A few months ago, Mike and Sarah discussed the importance of having a regular writing schedule. It’s easy and fun to keep writing. You don’t want a life of grinding. Mike told me he can’t do three hundred interviews a year, but he does them regularly. The best way to make the leap from doing the occasional interview or two to doing the full run of writing is to make sure you have work lined up before you decide to retire, and your editing schedule has everything ready to go with you when you do decide to quit.
Where do I begin?
There are three main things I think you should be doing before you decide to quit.
1. Get a few thousand dollars’ worth of credit card debt to pay off in one swoop. If you’re working off of one of many free sites like WordStream, you’re not going to do that. You need some cash on hand to get started.
2. Get a nice big computer you can work from at your apartment. This helps to organize your files and keeps them organized from one computer to the next. It’s more convenient to work from home and also helps you learn other aspects of your craft like the layout process on your site. There are a lot of blogs out there that claim they can help you do this, but I just wanted to show you what a setup looks like from my end.
3. Go to a meetup. I’ve never gotten a job while my friend did this. The best way to get a feel for what you’d like, how you see the world, how you work, and possibly how you can get more interested is to go to a coffee shop with your friends. When I had that conversation with my friends about finding a job, we really didn’t have anything in common. I had never worked in the web industry and they didn’t either, but we had a conversation about what they’d like to see in a career. The most telling thing on that one is when we started talking about finding a job. They couldn’t quite wrap their heads around it. Our conversation, though, was about finding what you loved doing and then finding a job doing it.
