Why do I need film to make a film?
In the USA we get all our film through the National Film Board, which is a great source. The US is the world’s biggest producer of films. It also happens to be the world’s biggest exporter of film.
In Europe we get all our film through the European Film Council.
But what does film mean in a country? If we had a choice of countries in which to shoot we’d choose the ones that have good support of the producers and the politicians.
In countries in which there are little or no subsidies, we can still do well and make the most out of our film. (This helps the filmmakers but we have to understand that the cost of the film doesn’t necessarily come down to just making your own film as it does in places with a lot of support. In the UK for example all our costs are covered by the film festivals).
We can do our jobs with a budget of less than 10,000 British pounds ($12,600)

In Europe we can do everything with little or no backing.
