This is tricky.
I don’t think you should use any kind of paint or glue.
It’ll get messy and the paint will run. I like to leave painted pieces in contact with the fabric for 5 minutes at least before letting them dry. I have an ironing board with a nice mesh cloth on it for this. I also have a spray bottle with a good pressure sprayer.
How long should your pattern be?
I think a little longer or shorter than the actual cut of the fabric.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if it’s wrong. I have seen a lot of mistakes by people attempting to make the pattern too tight or too loose, so don’t be too harsh. There are many tools you can use to help you make mistakes. There are many patterns online that you can use as a starting point to make the correct size patterns. I have some patterns that you should look at here . I suggest you try both and pick what to use. If you have a little more time, you can work on making the fabric a little looser.
What you will most likely need for sewing is: a sewing machine and some thread. I recommend getting one of each as there are many options out there you can make. If you use an online fabric store such as amazon I would get a machine that has a sewing attachment such as a pin and button.
If you don’t already have a sewing machine, you can get one cheap online for under US$35.
You will also need a pattern and some fabric to sew your pattern into. This is really a two way street. You can sew the pattern into fabric using a pin and button method (the fabric is already in stitches).
Or you can use a needle and thread. I would really suggest using a needle and thread sewing machine as it’s not as easy to set up.
Don’t worry so much about the needle and thread if you haven’t already. I always just buy the best cheap needles available on amazon if I have to because they work pretty good.
You can use any kind of fabric you like. I find that cotton and chiffon are the most suitable on fabrics that are very thin, thin or elastic like this one . You can also use acrylic fabrics. I have found the worst fabric to put things in is polyester or lycra (this is only in Japan if I remember correctly, but it really doesn’t matter if they are in the US or not when you are sewing the
